Advantages: Great show, great supporting cast

Disadvantages: It's not Mike Flaherty

Spin City has been a top rated comedy. Set in New Yorks City Hall it followed the fortunes of the Deputy Mayor Mike Flaherty, played by Michael J Fox.

Sadly Fox has had to step aside to focus on his health and raising awareness and money for research into Parkinsons Disease.

It was therefore a tough decision for the casting director of the show to find someone new to fill his spot. The choice was Charlie Sheen. After Daddy's success in the West Wing it was perhaps too obvious.

Fortunately the writers have not opted just to slot Sheen into the same character mould. Sheens character is more of a party animal, and less controlling than Mike Flaherty. The opening episode includes a scene of him in bed with a Swedish Air Hostess, played by British IT girl Tamara Beckwith, just to make that point.

Other changes include Heather Lockyear taking over as the Deputy Mayors female assistant. I fear this may lessen the impact of women in this show as the previous actresses were excellent.

Initially I'd have to say that the chemistry of the whole show is not what it was. The actors all seem to be trying hard to deliver their lines with perfect comedic timing, so hard it shows. This is to be expected as the team had five years together nd it will take a while to get back into the flow. I'll certainly stick with it for now.

I had no idea all this was going on with SC. I started watching it on Channel 4 in what seems like yesterday (three years at the most, I reckon). Great series. Love the opinion.

The price of my OnDigital went up by a couple of squid. Apparently Paramount and Knickerodouron are the two offending culprits. But if I get to see the new SC series, it might just be worth it. I have the basic package though, and they may force me to cough uo extra to get my viewing pleasure.

Hope not.

the new series has just gone to air in the US. Unfortunately like with Friends and ER the fall season tends to get its' first airings in the UK on pay TV in January.
