When I first saw Spongebob I didnt honstly think it would be a hit in the UK. I liked it but thought it may be too crazy. I remember Ren and Stimpy and Roccos modern lie both of which never really made a huge impact but were both in a similar style to this programme. Alas I was wrong and Spongebob has become a cult TV show not just for kids but for anyone who likes a bit of "Nautical nonsense"

The show follows a Sponge (the kind you find in the sea) who as you may have guessed is square in shape and wears pants! Spongebob is a great character. He is innocently stupid and unintentionally annoying! He often has very exadurated responses and emotions. I remember one situation found him crying. Whilst his tears were goming out in jets he was drinking them! Insane yes but the effect was hilarious.

Spongebob has a Squid living next door called Squidworth. he is the anti songebob. Often very sensible and is generally infuriated by Spongebob. He himself though has some very funny moments.

Spongebobs best friend is called Partick Star (hes a starfish). Here we have the funniest character. His voice, look and personality have me laughing pretty quickly. He is completely stupid and is pretty crazy.

They are the three main characters but there are others who provide support all of whom live in the underwater town of Bikini Bottom. The storylines are familiar as cartoons have been using the same situations for years now. There is however a twist on the norm as everything is either completely insane or the underwater location spices things up.

I can undersand why some people would hate the bob. It is bonkers and could be seen as annoying. Something about it though appeals to many people. It is different to all other cartoons and perhaps it is this originality that makes it so special. I do think also that it is quite inoffensive. There isnt any inuendo or bad language and even young children can watch it safely!
