Ok - Firstly, Enterprise is not marketed as Star Trek. The reason this is so is because the producers wanted to attract non-trekkies to the programme. Obviousley, being a trekkie myself, I was a bit dubious as to what the series was going to be like, but having watched now the first 17 episodes, I must say that I thikn it is Great!! While they have tried to cut out some of the "trekkiness" by using less technical words and making more action, it still appeals to the hardcore trekkie. You still have the alien races, the headstrong captains, the space battles, interesting storylines, and of course, the Enterprise, albeit the NX-Enterprise, i.e. for those non-trekkies reading this, the experimental ship.
Now, when I first started watching this, I noticed that, although it was meant to be set before Captain Kirk, the ships looked too slick and nice for that era, and this is still so. But, it looks good, and it needs to look good to attract viewers these days, and as you get into the series you soon forget about this fact, and most other things seem to tie in with the other series.
Enterprise is exciting in that you get to see the first encounters with various alien races known from the other series.
If you have never watched Star Trek before, you shouldnt have a problem picking this up, as it is set at the beginning, before the other series', when Earth is just getting used to Warp engines. Everything that you may not know is explained as you go along so it shouldnt be hard to pick it up.
Basically, if you havent watched it, give it a try. It is entertaining, fun, humerous and outstanding Sci-Fi, withe excellent special effects and great storylines. Watch it!!
