Advantages: Easy watching, entertaining
Disadvantages: None
Star Trek Voyager is a spin off series from Star Trek. I'm not sure if it's the 3rd or 4th incarnation of Star Trek (don't know if Deep Space 9 came first), but it's the best one.
Cast
****
Kate Mulgrew as Kathryn Janeway
Robert Beltran as Chakotay
Tim Russ as Tuvok Vulcan
Roxann Dawson as B'Elanna Torres
Robert Duncan McNeill as Tom Paris
Garrett Wang as Harry Kim
Robert Picardo as The Doctor
Ethan Phillips as Neelix Talaxian
Jennifer Lien as Kes Ocampan
Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine
My Thoughts
***********
I like all the Star Trek spin offs, but not the original series, but of the spin offs I think Voyager is by far the best.
With the exception of Kes all the characters are really interesting, and seeing how they work together despite their differences is great.
In case anyone doesn't know, in Voyager the crew and their ship were accidentally flung 70,000 light years away from Earth, so this poses some difficult problems for Janeway and the crew, do they go home, or settle on one of the many worlds they'll pass.
All the actors are really good, I think out of them all Ethan Phillips is the weakest, but even he produces a solid performance ever week.
The episodes are free standing, with just the getting back to earth storyline running through the series. Occasionally they'll mention events that have happened previously, but not often. The only other time you'd need to watch more than one episode to know what's happening, is when Seven of Nine joins the crew, and it takes a few episodes for her to be fully integrated into the show.
The show can be quite serious at times, but there's often a lighter side to most episodes, often involving The Doctor or Neelix, Robert Picardo is superb as the dead pan doctor.
Voyager is currently shown on Virgin, and is well worth watching.

- 27/09/09 Doesn't Janeway seriously resemble Katherine Hepburn?!
For what it's worth (geek alert!) the order of the incarnations is this:
Star Trek (aka TOS - the original series)
Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG)
Star Trek: Deep Space 9 (DS9)
Star Trek: Voyager (Voy)
Enterprise (later known as Star Trek: Enterprise).
J ust for the record! :) |
