Advantages: revived element of exploration, funny moments

Disadvantages: difficult to get in to, a bit cheesy

All startrek series are very diferent, Voyager is no exception. I think this has contributed to the success of the startrek universe; each series will appeal to different people.

Personally, i find Voyager the most entertaining series, followed closely by The Next generation and the DS9. The original is a bit before my time and i find it difficult to understand all elements of it without knowledge of the period from which it came.

My main critism of Voyager is that there is a strong story line throughout all of the series, and if you only started watching later on, it is difficult to understand all elements of the plot. Other Startrek series have been less linear, allowing you to watch any episode without needing to watch the couple that came before it. I think it is this difficulty in"joining" the story line mid-series that has prevented the audience numbers being as high for voyager as other startrek series. DS9 has a strong storyline too, however, key events only happen at the start and end of each series, with episodes in the middle barely referring to the overall storyline- a stratagy that seems to work given the series success. As Earth is in the alpha-quadrant of the galaxy, and voyager is stuck in the delta-quadrant, another critism of the series springs to mind. Asthey have no cotact with earth, starfleet, an interesting part of startrek, is absent from most of the series, which could put off trek fans.

Saying this, i think that it is worth the effort to "join" the Voyager story as the series brings back a greater element of exploration, otherwise only to be found in the original startrek series. Despite constant exploration and new species, you find voyager re-encountering races from earlier in their journey; even a few faces from the "alpha quadrant." Voyager is also quite funny at times in a cheesy way, another characteristic of the original series. I think it is this link to the original startrek
and the varied storylines that make voyager worth watching.

Sorry dave but I have to disagree with you on several counts. Next Generation is by far the best series. The characters are better, Voyager has used most of them in their episodes eg Borg, Q, Riker, Barclay. Also the stories are better and the charcters and storylines evolve. Voyager has suffered from preaching and predicatability. I am not a sci-fi fan but Next Gen had it all as a TV show.

Not bad op, just give us some stuff about the characters and it'd be VU. :)
