Advantages: Good presentation makes this a show worth watching.

Disadvantages: There are some deplorable acts on show, sometimes.

Did you watch ‘Stars in their Eyes’ the other week when they had a guy on ‘trying’ (and I do mean that loosely) to impersonate Steven Tyler but ending up, sounding more like an Anglicised Michael Bolton? Did you watch on the same show the woman who was impersonating Maria Callas?

That just highlights the extreme highs and lows of the show in general (although, I’d have used better examples from past series of you probably might remember).

I’m surprised the Americans haven’t had a go (if nothing else, to give British, a laugh at the Americans expense).

Everybody who points out flaws in the show invariably point out Matthew Kelly but I believe he is surprisingly effective as the host.

Who would you suggest instead? Dale Winton? Les Dennis (who’s already had a go at the genre with ‘Give Your Mate A Break’)? Des O’Connor?

Kelly works well to an extent with a smattering of a few jokes between the acts and he does put the contestants at ease AND he doesn’t try to outshine them when it is their opportunity.

Although I do believe they’re on occasionally dodgy ground particularly with the studio vote….why don’t they show how they voted? (Of course, you might say the numbers don’t matter….but they do for me).

What if grating is of course, the ‘life stories’ that each contestant is mandated to do. And perhaps, the risqueness that comes around now especially with a Britney Spears (doing ‘Baby One More Time’), a Shania Twain (doing ‘Man, I Feel Like A Woman’) and now Kate Bush (doing ‘Baboushka’, which you can see in tomorrow night’s grand final).

The occasional joy is trying to work out who’ll they’ll be, which is ruined somewhat by the promos who now tout who will the ‘stars’ turn out to be, of which they’ll show them in co
stume….

All in all, when it’s good, it’s very watchable and at it’s worst, you’ll want to switch channels and then check out the next act.

If the ‘fiasco’ that was last year’s contest to be repeated then it’ll look like Marc Bolan winning over a more technically accomplished Maria Callas and Paul McCartney….personally I’m rooting for McCartney, but we’ll see tomorrow.

If there's going to be one, that is!

Ha, ha, ha! Quite, but the argument goes....'there's nothing else on telly'.

I predict with great confidence, it'll feature in the next series of The Royle Family.

Just the mention of this programme's name makes me cringe. Why do people put themselves through such agony?
