Story Makers is a CBBC programme that encourages children to use their imagination and create a story each episode. It gives a little story of its own to heighten the suspense, as it describes the inhabitants of a children's library at night after everyone has gone home.
The inhabitants are Jelly and Jackson, two puppets who hide during the day and will only reveal themselves once the library has shut and everyone has gone home for the day. Then they come out and call for the Story Maker (an adult) who comes in and helps them make a story. They spend all night making the story, and then hide away again before the library reopens the next day.
Story Makers is very good as it encourages children in terms of literacy and also their creative side by using their imagination to make a story. My son doesn't watch this so much any more. Now he is 4, he is getting more into the cartoon side of children's TV, but every now and then we'll flick to an episode of this and he is still transfixed. He even used to imagine himself as one of the story makers!
The presenters, or rather story makers, are all played by actors, the notable probably being Danny John-Jules of Red Dwarf fame. Each of the story makers has the surname 'Wordsworth', but their first names vary. There are a number of stories in each episode, and there are familiar recurrences of characters to give the children something regular and structural to relate to, and to keep them coming back to watch again.
I recommend this programme for your kids. Like I said, it encourages literacy and creativity, and it's a nice way of combining their TV watching with something educational. A thumbs up from me!
Summary: Good entertaining and creative show for children
