Advantages: Fun and exciting

Disadvantages: Sometimes gets a little silly, like that tagline for instance

This is a series about two brothers that had been brought up by their father to be hunters of all things supernatural but they have each gone their separate ways. The older brother Dean continues to hunt these creatures of the night while younger brother Sam split away in pursuit of a normal life and a law degree.

However the disappearance of their father means Dean must force his way back into Sam's life as unexpected events unfold and the brothers must join together once more. So, they fight and kill lots of strange beasties of forgotten lore while there is a very interesting continuous story arc that I won't spoil.

Although this is a 'things go bump in the night' type of show there is very heavy focus on the relationship between Sam and Dean which makes it more compelling and perhaps realistic, if you will.

Dean is very much the brusque and shoot first and ask questions later kind of guy, he does hide a more gentle and caring side which I'm sure is of great appeal to the ladies (including me).
Sam is extremely intellectually but far from quite, he says his mind and manipulates situations more finesse than his hot-headed brother.
