Advantages: Great theme tune, Great show, addictive, fairly original concept

Disadvantages: Not enough episodes per week, Overshadowed by BB2

Being a big fan of survival books, films and reality TV shows, I could tell that Survivor, just from the name, would be for me.

Since I was on holiday when the first Big Brother started, I never really got into it even though I was very interested in who won.

The second Big Brother was (and still is) a huge disappointment with, in my opinion (I'm sure many of you wil not agree) the Celebrity Big Brother being the best of the three.

Survivor is excellent. It has a great theme tune, you feel like you're on the island, it's addictive to watch but... it's only on once a week.

There were originally two main shows a week, showing life on the island and having someone voted off at the end of each one. Alongside those to were the interview shows with the voted off Survivors, the night after the main shows.

Now, since all of the peeping toms have switched to Channel 4 to watch Big Brother (even though they're not on at the same time), Survivor has suffered and consequently, ITV have cut the show to just one interview and one main show per week.

The concept of Survivor is actually quite simple, even though it may sound complicated. At the very start of the show a group of 16 individuals were split up into two 'tribes', Ular and Helang, which both consisted of 8 castaways. As the show drags on, very three days the tribes are set immunity challenges which could range from an assault course to a quiz. Whichever team loses, eg. Helang, must, the following night, vote off a member of their tribe, usually the most incapable. Inbetween each immunity reward challenges are set where the tribes can win strawberries and cream to snorkelling gear.

When ten castaways are left on the island of Pulau Tiga, off the coast of Borneo, the tribes are merged to form 'Sekutu' which actually means merged or together. The immunity challenges now are even more simple, in one it was to just stand on a lo
g for the longest amount of time. Somehow Andy stayed on for 23 hours, earning the right of not being voted off. The first of the ten to go (Simon), simply goes home, while the next seven to get voted off form the 'jury'.

When there are just two castaways left it is the jury's job to decide who wins the grand prize of £1 million. A lot of money!

I loved Castaway 2000 when it was on (also overshadowed by Big Brother) but 'Survivor' is the best reality TV show to date and well worth watching. So, if you haven't seen it before, set your old box to ITV, 9pm every Monday. I guarantee you'll enjoy it.

Plus, it isn't down to the brain dead public to decide who goes, the Survivors themselves do the voting.

Much better op and a worthy VU...I agree its a better idea that the survivors vote on who wins...I still can't believe poor Bubble got evicted from BB2..

much better now, and i agree it isn't on enough, instead of an hour long show i would have prefered a few episiodes.
