Advantages: entertaining, better than Big Brother

Disadvantages: only on once a week , not live

When I first watched Survivor it went completely over my head and to put it politely I thought it was pants. I thought it was nothing special but now I look forward to a Monday evening to see who is going to be booted off the island. Some people compare this to Big Brother but I think they are two different shows. The only similarities are that there is a cash prize and the contenders don’t see their families for a few weeks. In Big Brother everyone is put into a house with running warm water and food to last them for the week. They are given the facilities to cook and wash their clothes. On Survivor the contenders have no showers, mattresses or food except rice. They have to live off the land and do things for themselves.

It makes me wonder why these people are crazy enough to leave their families behind to go on an island in the middle of nowhere with 15 other strangers. Perhaps it’s the thought of £1 million. The suntan is also a big attraction I expect.

Survivor first started with two tribes Ular and Helang. They had eight people each and they were left on an island with nothing but a map to find the water hole. They had to build their home and hunt for their own food.

The whole idea was to have two challenges a week where the two tribes would compete for rewards and nominations. The tribe that won the reward challenge got something special such as a live chicken or baked beans. The other challenge was to fight for Immunity, the winners getting to stay on the island for another week.

I will begin by introducing you to the contenders.

THE ORIGINAL CAST

* Helang Tribe *

Uzma – Uzma went early on. She seemed to keep herself to herself and others felt as if she wasn’t strong enough to stay on the island.

Adrian – Adrian also got voted off the island after the rest thought he didn’t do his fair share of work. He admitted to been a bit of a mummy’s boy
and was not used to doing anything for himself.

JJ- I almost forgot what she looked like. She was soon off the island.

Jayne – She was one of the oldest contestants aged 47. She was mainly voted off due to her strength and some people felt as if she wanted to see her little boy a great deal so felt voting her off was the best thing they could do.

Simon – Simon got voted off shortly after the two tribes merged. He was quite brave and proved this in the log challenge.

Andy – I thought this guy was great. Not just because he has Grimsby connections but because he was down to earth and gave everything 100%.

James – James reminded me of Andy in some ways. They became great friends whilst on the island together. He was very determined and sometimes scared me especially when he managed to stay under water for over 2 minutes.

Charlotte – She is known as loud, snotty and a cow. Not very nice I know but to be honest I think a lot of the others are jealous of her. She is a policewomen and quite athletic.

* Ular Tribe *

Nick – Straight away the newspapers compared him to Big Brothers Nasty Nick. He took a leadership role from the beginning and took control and this lead to the others feeling too pressured and resulted in him been the first one off the island.

Sarah – Sarah was also one of the first ones off and not very well liked. She seemed to be very weak in comparison with the rest of the tribe.

Pete - He was very religious and got booted off the island for been too honest. He was very emotional and was seen blubbering a few times before he got booted off.

Richard- He is well known for wearing a Mr Blobby t-shirt. He is very competitive and I would go as far to say he is obsessed with winning. He is very devious and seems to manage to get people on his side.

Zoe – My fiancé hated Zoe and thought she was very an
noying. She is an actress and acts her way through everything. She was the loudest on the island and annoyed the rest with her impressions.

Mick – Mick is retired and one of the oldest on the island. He seems to be well liked and keep himself to himself. He is one of the only ones who have not been devious trying to plan the rest off the island.

Jackie – I think she is the most annoying. I think she is the weakest on the island and never thought she would get this far.

Eve – Eve is also annoying although she doesn’t mind saying what she thinks. She is a strong swimmer and this showed last week when she won the Immunity challenge.

* Sekutu *

When the 16 went down to 10 the tribes merged and formed Sekutu. This was 6 of the original Ular and 4 Helang. This meant that of course Ular ganged up against Ular and set upon voting each one out at a time.

No with only a few weeks left there is only Eve, Jackie, Mick, Charlotte and Richard left. Last week Zoe was the unlucky one and Charlotte, Jackie and Richard seem to be ganging up on the other guys. Doesn’t quite seem fair but it is only a game and they are playing tactical.

I think Eve will be the one to go tonight. If she wins the challenge I believe it will be Mick.

**Who I wanted to win**
I really wanted Andy to win as I think he was the most down to earth person on the island. I am not just been biased because he has connections with Grimsby but that helps. He put 110% into every challenge and was very determined to get the best out of himself.

**Who I think will win**
Although I think Richard will be one of the two left due to winning the challenges I think the jury will decide the other one that is left deserves it. I know that a few of the people on the jury especially Andy does not like Richards attitude.

**Who the papers think will win**
The Sun seems to have got an idea in the
ir heads that Charlotte has won. I didn’t believe this could possibly happen but after watching last week there could be a chance.

**Conclusion**
I think this is a good programme and I prefer it to Big Brother. Not as many people watch it and think it is too confusing. I think everyone that gave it a couple of weeks to try and get used to it is know hooked. I am very surprised that the winner has not been revealed as it was filmed weeks ago.

Really Good opinion. Now I know the result I wonder if anyone leaked info to the Sun. I also wanted Andy to win and prefer it to Big Bro as that was boring compared to this.
Cheers, Saul.

V.nice and unbiased op! For a change it wasn't "Survivor is the best, Big Brother is the worst" or vice versa, but an honest appraisal of the show.

Well done!
