Swiss Toni

Swiss Toni was a part of The Fast Show as a five minute maximum clip, he's a sex obsessed, oily car salesman who compares everything wiht making love to a beautiful woman. As a five minute clip it worked really well giving the writers plenty of scope to place Toni in a positiin where he can claim something is 'like making love to a beautiful woman' you know the punchline is coming and that makes the humour all the more enjoyable when it comes. I love Swiss Toni. The humour at first looks sledge hammer like in its execution but I love the way Charlie Higson widened the character (from his Fast Show days) to show his range of insecurities and his myopic view of everything. Great interplays between his wife & the head salesman, the thick junior salesman and his pointless infatuation with the worldy wise receptionist etc, make for a great cast of characters ... it is classic good 'farce'. My fav episode was when Swiss Toni gets his first PC's for the showroom as he tries to enter the 21st century. Charlie Higson and Paul Whitehouse were the creative genius behind the sketch show called The Fast Show and this was the first place that viewers came across the character Swiss Toni. In The Fast Show he was played by Charlie Higson and Higson revived the character for this series of half hour shows which attempted to turn what was basically a one joke character into a half hour show and like others before and since it was not a success, Swiss Toni was a sharp suited, bouffont haired car salesman who considered himself a bit of a ladies man. "Writing a DooYoo op is a lot like making love to a beautiful woman: you take your product in hand, analyse it, think about it, perhaps give it a nibble and then just pound away (at the keyboard) until you are spent." I was quite fortunate to be allocated some (free) tickets to go and see this being filmed. So if you're not as lucky as me to have seen it already you'll probably want a little background information on exactly what it is. In fact, unless you did get some tickets, you probably wouldn't have seen it at all yet as it's not been on TV.
