Takeshi's castle was a popular Japanese gameshow from the 80s. It is currently repeating on Challenge every evening. The premise is that Count Takeshi (a popular Japanese actor) has set up a very tricky and well-designed assault course that 100 Japanese citizens have to traverse. This all leads to some very amusing slapstick moments with contestants missing platforms, slipping over and falling in muddy water, as well as being pounced upon by wrestling men in big comedy rubber suits. Due to its mainly visual gags and scheduling times, Takeshi's Castle has also become something of a hit among casual drug-users and the unemployed. Over here the show has a bit ... Takeshis castle is one of the funniest shows i have ever seen. Its really unusual and never fails to make me laugh. If you have never seen it before, its a Japanese gameshow that was recorded in the 80s. You can now watch it on Sky Tvs Challenge channel and the commentary is provided by the hilarious Craig Charles. Several contestants have to complete different wacky challenges in order to get a chance to storm the counts castle. The thing that annoys me is the fact that i have never seen one single contestant beat the guards and get into the castle. After each challenge from the start, a number of contestants are eliminated and keep ... Read the complete review

Takeshi's castle is a Japanese game show which is very similar to Total Wipeout although it's very dated. The show starts out with 100 contestants who battle it out by running assault courses and participating in different challenges before faces the final challenge and being in with a chance of winning one million yen. The show is ridiculously hard and it does make the watcher wonder if they don't actually have the prize funds at the end. My favourite challenge throughout the show is where the contestant has to run through doors but some of the doors are glued shut so if they choose the wrong one then they end up crashing into it. Japanese game shows are usually on the same basis as things like You've Been Framed, being that you laugh at other peoples pain. Which is apparantly great in Japan, so long as the person in pain is happy and is doing this at their own free will. Takeshi's castle is no exeption. Since this show is aired on Challenge, a channel on Sky and I dont have Sky, I usually go round to my cousins house, if I feel like watching it. Luckily though, you do get some clips on Youtube. Takeshis Castle is a show where between 100 and 150 contestants are put through some slightly stupid, and I must say HIGHLY entertaining physical challenges to try and win one million Yen.The ... There seem to be two trends for game shows these days. There is American way which is to offer fabulous prizes on a regular basis ala Price is Right where you share in the elation of the prize winner. The other way is the Japanese way where pretty mediocre prizes on offer and the the chances of winning are slim to nill. The fun to be had is in wishing them well and hoping one day you'll see a victor. Takeshi's Castle being of Japanese origin fits into the later category. Screened on the satellite channel Challenge practically every day I have been an avid viewer for the past five years. This is one very funny and extremely entertaining TV show. ...
