Disadvantages: Silly talk, silly walk, a load of rubbish

My 2 year old grand-daughter was talking plainly when we had last seen her. coming from the UA 6 months later, we were shocked at how "backward" she had become. Her speech was warbled, more like a chirrup than words, and she seemed to have a problem walking. She didn't take proper steps, she kind of jiggled along, wiggling her shoulders one side to the other with a weird shuffle of her feet. I was worried, and couldn't understand what might have happened to this child to reverse her development. I was actually worrying whether there might be something seriously wrong, like autism or something.
Not to worry. All was revealed when, on a visit to me, she wanted to watch "Teletubbies" on the tv. By this time she was 3 and could at least make herself understood. Well - when the show came on there was the answer! She had modelled her speech on their pathetic warblings and her gait was also mimicking their movement. I could not believe how much damage this programme had done to her development.

Unfortunately, she is now almost 5 and although her walking is now normal, some of the residue of the ridiculous chatter on this show remains. She tends to gabble when she talks, and her speech can sometimes be very unclear. I, for one, cannot believe that this happened. The show is a load of rubbish, but I also wonder how many other children it has harmed in the same way? How could they even consider this EDUCATIONAL TV?
