Advantages: Lots of bright colours, no violence.
Disadvantages: Annoying characters, no educational value, teaching children babyish language.
The Teletubbies has been shown on BBC channels since 1997 and production stopped in 2001, however, the original shows are still being repeated and this means that all 4 of my sisters children have watched this at some point during their childhood.
The Teletubbies are Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa & Po are purple, green, yellow & red (in that order) characters who have TV screens in their bellies and different objects on their head and they live in Teletubbie land in a Tubby dome which is located on top of a lush green hill.
The Teletubbies will appear from behind various hills or from a large hole in the ground at the start of the show and they are pretty much always very friendly and cheery. They speak a babyish language such as 'eh-ho' meaning hello and I personally think it's really bad for children to be encouraged by a TV show to use this kind of language, especially if they are now learning to talk themselves.
They are sometimes accompanied by Noo-Noo who is a kind of vacuum cleaner who hoovers up 'Tubby Custard' and miscellaneous other items and this is quite a cute little character that always makes me smile when I see it.
Overall I think that this show is far worse than others available on the same channels for young children to watch as it doesn't have any educational value (that I can see) and it just teaches children to copy the stupid babyish language and if anything this could harm development (dependant on the child of course). It's not something that is shown regularly in my sisters house as the children do not watch much TV at all preferring to be active in the garden or local park areas.
I would not recommend this for children or anyone else for that matter, it will drive you nuts and possibly make you want to set fire to your television set or something similar! I am therefore rating this 1/5 because it's not possible to give it a 0.
Summary: An awful childrens TV show that teaches them nothing.

- 13/05/09 I used to hate this but my son loved it :( Luckily my daughter wasn't impressed either, so I only went through the agony once. |
