I wouldnt let my kids watch this! (Teletubbies)

Advantages: Entertaining and funny for children, cute characters, keeps the kids quiet for a while

Disadvantages: Not very educational, reports in the press about it stunting childrens speech

I used to babysit for my friends little two year old son. He was a bit hyper like all toddlers and loved running me ragged!

One of his favourite cartoons was the Teletubbies so i used to put the dvd on to keep him happy and contented for a while.

I used to sit and watch it with him and i felt like my head was going to explode after a few episodes, its so unbelievabley repetitive and mind numbingly boring!

Children like repetition so i see how they would like it especially with all the bright colours and some of the cute characters.

If you have never heard of the Teletubbies, it is a BBC childrens tv series and has surprisingly even won a Bafta Award!

The show is aimed at and watched by toddlers and each episode is around 25 minutes long. It was created by Anne Woods.

It has four bright coloured tubby characters in different colours. The characters are Dipsy, La La, Po and Tinky Winky. I know a lot of children love this show but if i had kids i dont think i would be very happy with them watching the show.

This is because i remember reading that the way the Teletubbies talk teaches children to speak incorrectly without using full proper sentences and language.

I dont know if this is true or not but i would maybe encourage them to watch different cartoons and shows.

I think this show is really difficult to watch as it makes me feel as if im losing a few brains cells when im watching it and makes me crave adult conversation again.

The show is not very educational and does not teach children in my opinion many educational things and isnt one of the most intelligent kids shows that i have seen.
