Ten O'Clock (BBC)

Newest Review: ... an overpayment to recipients of almost £2bn. This was followed up with a general critique of the system. Pieces on the Indonesian earthquake, patient choice in the NHS and the rights of unmarried couples. An interesting short piece was concerned with celebration of the Battle of Jutland over 90 years ago. Pictures of a 110-year-old veteran on HMS Belfast are shown. The final slot is taken by the weather. This was presented by a female. This starts with the outlook for the afternoon today followed by predictions for the evening and tonight. Finally some suggest of what is on offer from above tomorrow. The graphics of the UK projected b... more

Premium Review Ten O'Clock (BBC): Serious News at the Beeb (646 words)

There are 3 main weekday sessions 13.00 Hrs start, 18.00 Hrs start, 22.00 Hrs. A further afternoon session at 15.20 hrs. The quality of the news is considered to be of the finest in the world. I suspect the funding of the BBC helps avoid the pitfalls of pandering to more commercial interests that commercial TV stations may face. 13.00 - 13.30 Hrs The main body of the news programme is concerned with national news. This is followed by national weather. The last 10 minutes are set aside for a sub programme concerned with local news - in my case London. The national news was read by 1 presenter a female, I’ve noticed an increasing use of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Time for the Tories to boycott the BBC? (810 words)

According to the BBC, Iain Duncan Smith has no right to talk about education. Both John Humphrys and Jeremy Paxman have rubbished the Tory leader's recent speech on equal opportunities for schoolchildren on the grounds that he sends his own son to Eton. The supposedly impartial Ten O'Clock news also made a point of raising the issue. Humphrys and Paxman are about as good as the Beeb gets in its dealings with politicians. We are not talking Nikki Campbell in their case. It was a fair point. But there is a glaring lack of consistency. I have never heard Humphrys or Paxman, or anyone else on the BBC, implying that Tony Blair has no right to talk about ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Ten O'Clock (BBC): In a league of their own (1067 words)

As you obviously all know (or certainly should know), the BBC, more officially known as the British Broadcasting Corporation, is, in a sense, owned by us. We pay the money through our TV licences that enable the BBC to stay alive. I have never agreed with this tactic of making us pay for something that we might not even watch but we have to, and it doesn't seem like we are going to stop. To be truthful, I am more of a fan of Channel 4 and the Sky Digital channels such as The History Channel, and Discovery Wings... and of course the Sports, where else would I watch Liverpool?! But, the BBC does have it's uses. I am a fan of intellectual documentaries, and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review One Bong too many! (176 words)

I quite like the News at Ten when it was on ITV, as it gave a great news round up plus the sport, but I don't like what bbc have done. Firstly I would really care where they put the News as long as they put something better in place of it but they don't, One Foot in the grave, should already be in its grave, as it is no longer funny, so they might as well put the news instead of it and have the brilliant Royal Family follow, also putting on repeats of repeats of the Vicar of Dibly its just top acceptable, If they put worth while programmes, I will not have anything to say but they seem to be lacking a real strong line up, and other programmes will be ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Ten O'Clock (BBC): BBC TEN O'CLOCK NEWS - Israeli and Pentagon propaganda? (974 words)
by - written on 19/10/00 (Very useful, 91 readings)

The Taliban offered to hand over bin Laden to any country (other than the USA) without seeing any evidence of his 'guilt.' A US Defense Department spokesman admitted that hijackers in the September 11 attacks received training at secure US military bases. The Economist and ITN stated that Blair's evidence against Bin Laden would not stand up in court. None of this, so far as I am aware, has appeared on the BBC's Ten O'clock news. Could this be connected to the fact that A. The BBC Chairman Gavyn Davis, the BBC Director General Greg Dyke, and the main political correspondent Andrew Marr are all supporters of ...  Read the complete review
