Advantages: Very entertaining

Disadvantages: Less about business

The series began in 2005 as an interesting take on reality television. The show's initial flair and spark was eventually rewarded with a BAFTA. In essence, the show takes 16 budding business men and women who must perform business related tasks under the watchful eye of Sir Alan Sugar. The victor, who is hired, will receive a six figure salary.

However, the start of 2009 now signals the fifth series of the apprentice. Although the show is certainly still gripping and one of the most popular shows on BBC, is this down to its entertainment factor or actually the business concept behind it? This series certainly has contained a number of lively characters, each with strong egos and personalities. The ultimate result of this is persistent arguing and inevitable good television. Therefore, I question if these people represent business potential or just simply the potential to create good television. This is certainly an interesting debate, so what do you think?

Summary: An entertaining show, but this is perhaps at the expense of quality

I agree it's no longer about business; it's become like Big Brother - just another bunch of people who wanna be on telly. I still love it tho!

It gets sillier every year - mind you, I still watch it.

If it were more than 16 muppets chosen for their entertanment value rather than their genuine business nous, it could have been more interesting. Sir Alan must be being paid a hell of a sum to make up for this waste of time. Good, if a little basic, write-up 8^)
