The Apprentice is a television show which has recently finished its 5th series in the UK. It airs on BBC1, usually on a weeknight (this series was a Wednesday) at 9.00pm.

The show originated in the United States, where Donald Trump was looking for an apprentice to work for him. In the UK, Sir Alan Sugar is the boss, and each week he sets the team a task in which they have to prove themselves to be the best.

Recent tasks include creating and marketing a children's breakfast cereal; rebranding the English seaside town of Margate, and selling bric-a-brac. The group of candidates is divided into two teams, each team appoints a project manager, and they go about their tasks, using all their skills to try and win. Most weeks the winning team is the one that makes the most profit, but occasionally Sir Alan picks the winning team based on the advice of experts in particular fields. Usually, in the penultimate week, the candidates are subjected to interviews by Sir Alan's friends and colleagues, who grill them and pick apart their CVs.

After the tasks, the candidates are shown to the boardroom where Sir Alan sums up the task and reveals the winning team. They are then presented with a treat, which can be anything from tasting truffles to having caricatures done. The project manager of the losing team must then pick two members of their team to bring back to the boardroom with them, where Sir Alan will pick one of the three and tell them 'You're fired!' This continues over many weeks until Sir Alan is left with two candidates, and from these two he picks one to tell 'You're hired!' That person is then rewarded with a high paying job within one of Sir Alan's companies.

The Apprentice is a fantastic show, it allows the viewer to feel involved and root for their favourite. It has been running for five series and will hopefully continue to run for many more.

Summary: Hopefully The Apprentice will never be fired!
