Advantages: Entertaining.
Disadvantages: Tasks are all abit 'samey' these days.
The Apprentice used to be a great a TV show that featured a handful of Britains most promising business people. I say used to be because it seems to have fallen into the reality TV trap of just selecting the most annoying and self opinionated candidates in order to boost ratings.
Don't get me wrong, I understand that we need entertaining people on the show to make the show entertaining, but its now got to the point where I don't believe the candidates are infact the best of the best, and in most cases are certainly not the kind of job applicants I'd consider for a top £100k a year position.
For me the fact that this years winner was giving the position of heading a department that gives free electrical signage to hospitals and the such proves my point - how hard can it be to give free things to a hospital? Hardly a sales role worthy of £100k. Yes I know there will be more to the job that just that, but I doubt the role is worthy of the hefty wage attached.
The fact is Lord (as he is now) Sugar more than makes his money back on the wage he has to payout by doing the programme in the first place. Infact, he could just pay the winner to stay at home and pay them £100k a year, and still be up on the deal!
The Apprentice is still the best of a bad bunch when it comes to reality TV, but it seems to have lost it's business edge and gone for bawdy, outgoing TV personalities that suit the Heat magazine generation, rather than talented young business minds that used to feature on the show.
Summary: Not bad, but not great.
