Advantages: No advantages
Disadvantages: Not enough info on exercise and healthy eating
I apologise in advance if this is not the epic review you normally expect of me, but there is only so much of dullness you can watch and there is only so much you can say about something so dull as The Biggest Loser.
This review is based on the one and only epsode of this programme I have seen, aired on ITV on the 1st of June 2009.
I didn't set out to watch this programme - I had the telly on in the background, and the begining of it coincided with a coffee break, so I decided to see it through so to speak.
So I waited for something to happen!
Now I will be honest, I have never seen the programme, or any trailers before, and I have done no research, but what I gather from the epsiode I saw, there are two teams who each have to eliminate one of their own members each week?
Obviously this is a narrowing down process to an eventual individual/team winner.
The programme is an hour long. What I was expecting was to see the teams do fitness test against each other, perhaps also have some sort of meal challenge. What I got for the first 45 minutes or so was a load of bitching and sniping and a slow, slow, slow process of the individuals talking about themselves and their team mates, in the context of elimimation.
Then we get to meet the trainers Angie for the black team and Rich for the blue - they don't know who has been elimiated, so they only find out by each contestant introducing himself back into the trainers room individually to announce their weekly weight loss.
This is a tense time for the trainers, as they eventually find out if one of their team has gone. This is a long slow process.
Angie must be one of the most insincere people I have seen on telly, she is also scary, then again that might be an act.
At last, for the last fifteen minutes or so, we get to see the contestants actually have a bit of fun and do something. This portion of the programme actually had the trainers doing something useful.
I will stick my neck out here and say that I feel regular viewers might watch this programme in the hope that they can learn something about weight loss, keep fit and diet. If that is your aim for watching this, I would say spend the hour between doing some gentle exercise and/or reading up on healthy eating.
What a waste of time!
Summary: A waste of time
