Advantages: great setting, interesting, addictive

I am not the most obsessed person with reality TV shows but I love the glamour and the drama of some. I have reviewed The Hills before but for all of you who are unfamiliar with the show; it follows Lauren Conrad a girl trying to make something of herself in LA basically her life while she tries to make it in fashion while studying dealing with boy and friend drama. She is well off so it is focused around fashion, Los Angeles the setting and she used to intern for Teen Vogue which is where she worked with Whitney Port. They became good friends but near the end of the show Whitney was offered a position in New York to work for Diane von Furstenberg a huge designer so The City is the spin off from The Hills following Whitney on her career move and life settling into New York's busy social scene.

Whitney Port already knows a few people out here but has no real close friends. At Diane von Furstenberg I'm not sure of her exact position but she does a lot of fashion styling. She works there with a girl called Olivia who is a New York 'social' but she mixes with the high society a bit like Gossip Girl on the Upper East Side so is very rich but her and Whitney don't see eye to eye. Whitney is more down to earth but this girl seems to want to make her the next social and at work is very competitive constantly trying to take credit for Whitney's well doing.

Jay is Whitney's boyfriend, she met him at the end of The Hills, he plays in a band and she did meet up with him when visiting New York but now they are trying to make more of a relationship of it. He is a nice guy but is not in the high class scene at all and is more indie and laidback but he and her seem to get on well. However, there is always drama in the show whether she is going through typical early relationship dilemmas or girls from his past are coming up.

Erin and Sammie are Whitney's main friends in New York. Erin works in fashion as well but more computer work and she gives Whitney advice on everything like she is the person who she most chats with. They go out partying and she also has her own dilemmas with boyfriends and others on the show. She is really likeable and down to earth though and reminds me of a typical friend a girl needs in life. Sammie isn't as close to Whitney as Erin but is someone she has met recently who also likes to go out but works for a fashion department store.

Allie is also one of the girls Whitney is friends with but she is seeing Jay's best friend Adam who is not so nice as he is always chatting up other girls even though he is with Allie so the girls are not big fans of his. Allie is an aspiring model and has a lot of boyfriend trouble but seems fragile and gets on well with all of the girls as they only know her through Jay.

That pretty much sums up the entire cast but the busy setting of New York City makes the shows visually interesting. There is always interesting restaurants and clubs the cast are going to. Also the DVF offices where Whitney works are nice to look at and she is always going places to set up events or anything related to the company. The shows is only 20 minutes long, well 20 minutes with adverts but goes very quickly as there is always something going on. Sometimes they go on holiday on the show as well but they are all a very attractive cast and I like the way it is like watching into their lives but being their age I can relate to them a lot.

A lot of people hate these shows saying they are scripted which I am sure they are in some way and no doubt funded as well but that's what makes them so interesting. I don't think this show is for people who don't like reality TV. If you love The Hills you will definitely love this as its addictive and every episode something happens.

The show is played on MTV on Sunday nights at 9pm but I think you can watch the episodes online if you don't have that channel. It is Sky channel 350 but even if you miss the exact time slot they always replay episodes and do catch up days so you can watch it all in order if you missed any.
