Advantages: easy to follow, superb host, very entertaining, family show.
Disadvantages: no consolation prize
The colour of money brings Chris Tarrant to our screens once more. I think Chris is a great 'people person' and is just the right sort of presenter this show needs. Whilst when it began, for me, the colour of money was definately a murky beige, now it has grown on me, I'd say it had developed into Platinum.
What is it ?
It's a game show.
A bit like Deal or no deal but with a bit of Perzazz !
How does it work ?
There are twenty boxes, all of different colours, they each hold a different amount of money from £1000 up to £20,000 (hence the name).
One contestant plays at a time.
They select a credit card from a choice of three. Run it through a machine and this tells them how much they are playing for (the minimum is £50,000).
The contestant picks a colour box (the reasons for their choice of colour range from "it's the colour of my dog's eyes" to "the box is calling me").
Once a box is chosen the clock starts ticking. Every second the amount on the screen goes up in £1000 amounts.
Of course, the contestant doesn't know how much money there is in the box, they are just trying to get as much as possible, so the trick is to hold your nerve and let it carry on as far as you dare. When they can stand it no longer, they have to shout STOP. They then win the amount shown. However if they are too greedy or have picked a box with a small amount inside they see a big X appear and they have lost the money in that box.
They can open up to 10 boxes so if they do get X on some boxes it's not the end of the game.
As long as they hit the total given to them by the credit card within the 10 box limit they win the money.
Anyone else invloved ?
The contestants can bring a few family members or friends with them to shout advice.
There is Millie - she tells you the amount you should be aiming for from each box. (a sort of budget Carol Vorderman).
Is it worth watching ?
Yes.
It does get really exciting. There is no real skill needed as at the end of the day it is all down to luck - picking the right boxes and holding your nerve. You do get caught up with it though.
My overall opinion ?
This is turning out to be a great game show for Saturday evenings. I love the way Chris Tarrant is with the contestants, he really puts them at their ease, and he knows how to hype things up. Although, it's all down to luck I do find myself on the edge of my seat and can often be heard shouting at the screen. It is easier for the contestants to win a smaller amount of money - they don't have to be quite so brave, but the tension really hots up when they are trying for a larger amount.
A great hour of entertainment. Suitable for all the family to watch. Now compulsive viewing for me.
Summary: A great game show with lots of twists and turns. Very exciting.
