Advantages: simple, hilarious

Disadvantages: a quite short series

The Dave Gorman Collection is deceptively hilarious. That is, for those who bother to scratch beneeth the surface and realise the humour. I missed it the first time round but thankfully, it has recently been repeated.

Dave has travelled around Britain, and overseas if necessary on a quest to find others by the name of Dave Gorman. The show is basically a report on his findings. He aims to maintain the standard of somewhere in-between 300 and 500 miles per Dave Gorman (mpdg) where any value below the former would indicate his name was too common and a mpdg value above the latter would mean he hasn't found a sufficient amount of Dave Gormans.

'Whats the point?' i hear you ask. Precisely. There is no point. Infact, this only came about as the result of a silly bet between David and friend. The comedy lies in Dave's hyperbolic enthusiasm to what is, in essence, a meaningless cause. Ally this with his charismatic delivery and we have a great show.

On one particular instance, David travels all the way to Marseilles in the south of France to meet a fellow Dave Gorman who he finds not to be at home. It transpires that this DG is currently in London; literally on Davids doorstep. We see David's immense frustration as this adds a significant number of miles to his 'mpdg'(ha ha) value and in fact scews the graph to lie outside the required 300-500mpdg zone. The audience are seen to share his frustration. A collective groan is followed by laughter as the audience realise the satire. It is things like this which add to the program's appeal.

David Gorman: 'So we found David Gorman in Italy. Guess what his son is called.......John David Gorman. Oooooooooh! evil child!'

This series is refreshingly original. Based on a simple idea, it is down to earth comic genius.

Brilliant Show! I believe he also travelled to Israel in anticipation that there would be FOUR whole Dave Gormans out there...Turns out it's one Dave Gorman with 4 different telephones!
