This is the latest of several adaptations of what is without doubt one of the most well known books of all time. Based on the journals of a young girl named Anne Frank, the diary records her thoughts, feelings and emotions during the course of the second world war when she and her family were forced into hiding because of their religious beliefs. Produced by the BBC, this latest television version (shown over five consecutive nights on BBC1 and no doubt soon to be available on DVD) is based on the most up-to-date and unabridged edition of her diaries; prior to his death in the eighties, Anne's father had previously removed certain sections of her journal that he did not ... In June 1942 a 13 year old girl called Anne Frank began to write a diary and it is now one of the most popular diaries ever published. The diary of Anne Frank was shown at 7pm every day from the 5th January for 5 consecutive evenings. I read the book many years ago and was quite keen to watch the adaptation but after missing it I watched it via bbc iplayer and I was glad that I did make the effort to go back and watch it. *~*Episodes*~* Having read the book a good few years ago I was familiar with the characters but I was in awe at how well the cast had been selected as not only were they all extremely talented in the roles that they ... The BBC originally screened this in 2009 in five half hour episodes. It was produced by Darlow Smithson Productions and directed by Jon Jones. It starred Ellie Kendrick as Anne and also starred Lesley Sharp, Iain Glen, Tamsin Greig, and Kate Ashfield as some of the main characters. The film, which was in fact more like a play simply because it was set 90% of the time in just a couple of rooms, is from an adapted screenplay by Deborah Moggach based on the diaries of Anne Frank. Anne Frank and her family were of German Jewish origin but moved to and settled in Amsterdam, Holland. In the build up to the Nazi occupation of ... Read the complete review

Adapted time and time again, this story never fails to bring a tear to one's eye. Recently adapted by the BBC this story tells the tale of a young Jewish girl, forced into hiding along with her family to save themselves from being carted off to a concentration camp. The story is widely known, and so it might seem difficult to capture the essence of this story - but no, not for the BBC. The five part series was gripping from start to finish, from the times when the characters were going about their daily business in hiding, to the traumatic and high tension scenes when raids were commenced. Ellie Kendrick played Anne Frank, and although just so ... Read the complete review

Anne Frank, a teenage girl, who loves normal teenage things, friends, family, boys etc. Her life however is shortened as she becomes a victim of the horrors of world war two. As a Jewish family in the midst of world war two, this BBC adaptation shows the struggles of the Frank family based on the publication of, The Diary of Anne Frank. Most people probably recall the story of Anne Frank from school or just general knowledge and the end of the story is perhaps common knowledge. In the 2009 adaptation it is interesting to get an insight into the life of Anne Frank and her family who spend years living in an attic room mainly in silence so the workers below ...
