This is the latest of several adaptations of what is without doubt one of the most well known books of all time. Based on the journals of a young girl named Anne Frank, the diary records her thoughts, feelings and emotions during the course of the second world war when she and her family were forced into hiding because of their religious beliefs. In June 1942 a 13 year old girl called Anne Frank began to write a diary and it is now one of the most popular diaries ever published. The diary of Anne Frank was shown at 7pm every day from the 5th January for 5 consecutive evenings. The BBC originally screened this in 2009 in five half hour episodes. It was produced by Darlow Smithson Productions and directed by Jon Jones. It starred Ellie Kendrick as Anne and also starred Lesley Sharp, Iain Glen, Tamsin Greig, and Kate Ashfield as some of the main characters. The film, which was in fact more like a play simply because it was set 90% of the time in just a couple of rooms, is from an adapted screenplay by Deborah Moggach based on the diaries of Anne Frank. Adapted time and time again, this story never fails to bring a tear to one's eye. Recently adapted by the BBC this story tells the tale of a young Jewish girl, forced into hiding along with her family to save themselves from being carted off to a concentration camp. The story is widely known, and so it might seem difficult to capture the essence of this story - but no, not for the BBC.
