WHAT IS IT ABOUT:
An American sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air stars a young Will Smith as a street wise Philadelphia lad who goes to live with his posh relatives in Bel Air. The show is a comedy that draws much of its fun from the way Will clashes with the Banks family's way of life, particularly that of his cousin Carlton. The show ran 6 seasons.
IS IT ANY GOOD:
Here's a show that I watched as a teen that is still watched by teens around the country, who get as much enjoyment out of it now that I did ten years ago. Why is that? Because comedy never dies, and this show is great comedy.
The show is a character based comedy, that succeeds because of the humorous interactions that arise from wildly different characters:
Will - Will is a cool, street wise lad who is the role model of the show; an instant hit with teens everywhere, he is young, good looking, anti-establishment and funny.
Carlton - they juxtapose Will with Carlton, his uptight, upper class cousin, who is the antagonistic voice of the show. He's the voice of reason, the cautious one, who always tries (unsuccessfully) to bring Will up in the world. Long time viewers will know what I mean when I say Carlton's dancing is just brilliant!
Hilary- the cousin from hell, Hilary is all about shopping and vanity, and offers a dippy, light-hearted character that unites everyone in their dislike of her.
Uncle Phil - the patriarch of the family, Uncle Phil spends most of his time stressed out by Will's actions. Like Carlton, his stressful personality makes Will seem all the more stressed out.
These are the main characters who power this show. It would be wrong to say the acting is great, but it's all in the name of fun, and funny it is.
IN CONCLUSION:
A show that never loses its charm, The Fresh Prince is here to stay.
Summary: watch it
