Advantages: Give information on the latest technology on offer
Disadvantages: Can be dependant in the presenter, as seen when Perry was missing
The Gadget show is a show that focuses squarely on the new and inovative gadgets and technology that is coming onto the market, with also a look back at the most iconic gadgets of their day.
The show started back in 2004 with the original three presenters of Jason Bradbury who started off as a stand up comedian before going into presenting and started on programmed such as the Top Gear spin off Top Gear GTi; suzie Perry who was mainly associated with sports programmes before she started on the Gadget Shows and Jon Bentley who while being a presenter has mainly been behind the camera the camera as a producer for programmes like Top Gear and Fifth Gear: with the show originally running as a 30 minute programme. This has subsequently been changed and extended to an hour long show (which is usually shown on Channel Five on Mondays at 8.00 pm or repeats on Fiver), and the presenting team has also been expanded. It started with the addition of Dallas Campbell, although he left without any mention after the end of 2008. He was subsequently been replaced by Ortis Deley. who while being on the show also works on the shows online weekly element with another presenter, Dionne South and another of the shows original presenters Jon Bentley.
In terms of how the show is run, the original three all had equal ait time on the show, although of the latest series of the show Jon Bentley has been in seen less on the show, with him mainly in his own segments of the show, giving reviews and comparisons of similar products. Such an example would be when he tried and test all in one television, broadband and telephone packages, or testing the very latest Note book laptops.
In terms of the other two original presenters, they take up the majority of the time of the latter episodes, as they take part in gadget challenges, although Jon does take part in some of these challenges. Usually these challenges to test the gadgets to the extreme to test the manufacturers claims about the product and see how far beyond these claims will the products go.
Although this may seem extreme it is a good section, as you have a laugh at the presenters making fools of themselves half of the time. But it is a good test, as with gadgets that are intended to be used out doors such as camping, if you are going to buy the products you want to know that it will stand up to the elements.
Although the show is not always focus on challenges that are so extreme. As in some shows they have challenges of, what is the best method to buy the gadgets, in a shop or over the internet. Or testing software for a particular task, such as photoshopping software or music mixing software. These are probably the more interesting types of challenges for me personally as, it is more of the types of items that I am likely to buy.
In terms of the presenting team, I enjoy taching them, as they have a good relationship and banter between all the team that is fun to watch. It was starkly evident how good the team work together, than when Suzi Perry was missing from the show for health reason in the last series and was replaced by Gail Porter. While she ok as a replacement until the return of Perry, there was something that was missing from the show, in particular the banter between her and Jason Bradbury.
I would recommned the programme if you are into gadgets or even if you don't as I know people that watch the show because of the different elements of the show, such as the challenges.
Summary: One of the best technology shows

- 19/06/09 Some of what you write does not make sense to me. I suggest that you write your reviews in Microsoft Word, first and then check it and re-check it before pasting it in the dooyoo review rectangle. You can not go wrong this way! |

- 19/06/09 I actually preferred Gail Porter |

- 18/06/09 I also enjoy the gadget show, but am not keen on seeing the gadgets destroyed by the often extreme testing techniques. |
