The Grimleys

Newest Review: ... is despised by Doug, but that doesn't stop him attempting to win Geraldine from the mysogenist. The Grimleys was first broadcast in a 1997 pilot. James Bradshaw is excellent as the oversized schoolboy; you warm to him, share his frustrations and revel in his triumphs. His father is played by Nigel Planer. He is a bitter, lazy and repugnant individual, who regards Gordon as a waste of space - it sounds so much better in a Birmingham accent. Geraldine was played in the pilot by Samantha Janus, and Doug by Jack Dee. Their performances were amusing and credible. Janus created the sweet-natured essence of Gordon's love interest, while Dee ... more

If you want an idea of what The Grimleys is like, think Gavin and Stacey with Birmingham accents, crossed with The Royle Family. That's what I think anyway, you'll have to make up your own mind. The Grimleys follows Birmingham teenager Gordon Grimley through the pains of adolescence, with all the associated lustful yearnings and frustrations. Split between Gordon's home and school, the series unfolds with the marvelous back drop of the 1970s. In short, the whole premise of The Grimleys, is Gordon's infatuation with his English teacher, Geraldine. She treats him with kindness and patience he gets nowhere else, least of all at home. However, his ...  Read the complete review

You often hear people say that all the best sitcoms are American, well I disagree. The Grimleys is now into its third series and it continues to follow the life of Gordon Grimley and his unrequited love for Geraldine It is now the late 1970's. In the previous series Gordon was a pupil at the school where Geraldine was a teacher but now the years have moved on and Gordon has become a teacher himself. Unlike many sitcoms The Grimleys is not all cosy little stories and it has a black comedy edge to it. It was not afraid to have Geraldine run over at the end of the last series and spend the intervening years in a coma whilst Gordon became a teacher. This new ...  Read the complete review

The Grimleys is on ITV at 10.20pm on Monday's. Its now in its third series, each series set in a period of modern UK times. The third series is now in the 70's. The program is set around the Grimley family, primarily their positions within the local school. The Husband is a miserable man who spends all day at home watching football and drinking beer, the wife now works at the school as a dinner lady, one of the son's is a teacher at the school and the other son is a pupil at the school. As each series has been released, I have noticed a significant increase in sarcasm and exaggeration in this program. I think this has made the show all ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Gorden 4 Titley 4 ever (126 words)

If you haven`t seen this excellent series yet, then turn off the computer and go and watch it now! It is one of those excellent programmes that after a few episodes, it just keeps on getting better and better. The characters are quite true to life and everyone can see themselves as one of tham - be it the hopeless Gorden or the devilishly handsome (and general cool dude) Mr. Treblecoe. Now the series has returned, it was touch and go as to whether or not the humour would continue, but with the excellent srotylines continuing, and with Gorden falling got the lusting teacher in tonights episode, the humour is obviously just beginning to folow with plenty more to come. I ...  Read the complete review

Now that Gorden has swapped his school tie for a suit you would have thought that he has finally grown up, but you’d be wrong, Gorden Grimley is as geeky as ever. Three years on from the end of the last series (now 1978), we have finally reached the punk rock phase, safety pins and dog collars all round, yet you won’t see any of this on Gorden. In the new series we have seen the end of Douglas Digby (Brain Conley) Yippee (good actor, just don’t like Doug) and the arrival of Mr Treblecock (a woodwork teacher who built a 6ft pencil case for Doug’s coffin). So what will we see next, well I don’t know, but this is a great ...  Read the complete review
