Advantages: Dramatic and exciting, and supposedly real life

Disadvantages: None from my point of view

The Hills has been one of my favourite programmes in recent years on MTV. The Hills is a spin off from a series called Laguna Beach. Laguna Beach was a real life drama based in Laguna Beach in California. It was based around the lives of a group of teenagers who live in massive houses in beautiful surroundings. One of the main characters of this programme was Lauren Conrad, also known as LC.

The Hills sees Lauren move to LA to go to fashion school. She also has a job as an intern at teen vogue. Her ex, highschool sweetheart turns up and she ends up dating him, even turning down the opportunity to go to Paris to be with him. The relationship doesn't last and Lauren has a number of other relationships.

Lauren also lives with her best friend Heidi. Heidi wants to work in events. Unfortunately Hedi makes a choice in a boyfriend , a guy called Spencer who Lauren is not too impressed by. Lauren and Heidi end up falling out over him which caused high tension, drama and consultations.

Another of Laurens friends is Audrina. Audrina is the other flatmate of Lauren and Heidis and ends up stuck in the middle when the two other girls break up. Audrina also seems to make a lot of mistakes when it comes to the other sex and has a constant on/off relationship with a guy called Justin.

Other characters include Whitney , who works with Lauren at teen vogue. Another member of the friendship group is LO who also lived in Laguna beach with Lauren. She comes to live with her and Audrina in the later series.

The Hills see all the drama and excitement unfold in these girls lives, from work to relationships. It is glamorous and the location adds to the glitzyness of it all. The girls seem to have it all - beauty, money and drive but that doesn't mean that they always suceed. I think this is one of the best things about the programme. It shows that even if you are pretty, popular and rich it doesn't mean that life will always be easy.

The characters are easy to like or hate. I have grown a real affection for Lauren from watching Laguna Beach and The Hills and she seems like a lovely, hardworking and beautiful girl. I also have a real hatred towards Spencer who just seems to cause all the problems between Lauren and Heidi.

Each episode of the programme is just over 20 minutes long. The programme is shown on MTV. Repeats are often shown on this channel and also MTV R so you can catch up on all the previous series. When new series are out these are usually aired on a Sunday night around 8.30pm. The previous series are also available on DVD.

If you love bitchy girls, drama, romance and excitement then this is the programme for you.
