One of the joys of having a young child is that I can watch some kids TV with him. Now because I don't want my son to grow up as a goggle-eyed child I do try to limit what we have on to watch. I try to choose programmes that are fun and have something of point to them either educational or have a message about life and people. Now as my son is 18 months old I don't really expect him to absorb or learn something as yet from the programme choice or become Einstein but I think if I start these habits now they will continue as he does become older. I love this show, the only problem is the time it is shown - about 6am! I'd not seen it in years and almost forgot it existed! My friends and I used to watch it most weekends, we would tune in at around 6am and crash out in front of The Hoobs after a hard nights clubbing! It could have been the alcohol affecting our brains but it seemed to be a very interesting programme and we were all hooked! Now I have my very own Tiddlypeep (child) so i've got an excuse to watch it again! Yay. And luckily I have Sky+ so the ridiculous showing times aren't a problem anymore. One of the great benefits of being a student is that occasionally I get a day off and can spend some time watching very educational programmes. OK, I admit, I'm not quite as studious as I sound when I say that. You see, I've recently discovered The Hoobs! It's the show on Channel 4's "4 Learning" package of programmes that goes out on weekday mornings for children. The Hoobs are a product of the very established Jim Henson studio, the home of the Muppets and Fraggle Rock.
