Advantages: Superb comedy, tackles real teenage issues, absolutely hilarious

Disadvantages: Episodes not long enough, not enough episodes in a series, very rude

The Inbetweeners is an English comedy show revolving around four teenage boys. They aren't in the popular gang in their school sixth form but neither are they in the geeky group, hence the name 'inbetweeners'.

The show sees these average boys going through their lives with all the usual teenage worries and how they cope with them, including the panic of getting a girlfriend and losing their virginity, being let into the 'cool' guy's party, getting served in a pub and, of course, what the best position is for a good w**k.

~ Will (Simon Bird) ~
At the beginning of the first series, Will is just starting out at a new school (a comprehensive one - much below his usual standards of his old private school), having moved due his parents divorce. He is a typical geeky lad - wears glasses, tucks his shirt into his trousers and, worst of all, carries his school books around in a briefcase. This makes him the perfect target for the school bullies to pick on and he gets labelled as 'briefcase w****r!' on his very first day. He is very proud of the fact that he manages to make a few new friends though (forgetting that at first they tried to run away from him) - well one real friend and two others that he just hands around with. Amidst all the many jibes from his so called 'friends' that his mum is 'well fit', and the only reason that they have befriended him is so they ogle his mum, Will tries his hardest to impose some of his mature and sensible ways onto his friends.

~ Simon (Joe Thomas) ~
The shy and unconfident Simon is deeply in love with Carli, who he knows is way out of his league. But every time he does manage to speak to her, he gets nervous and tongue tied and ends up making himself look like a complete idiot, including vomiting all over her younger brother and ending up stark naked on a fishing boat in the middle of the lake. But Carli still talks to Simon on occasions and everything he does seems to revolve around her. He's the only one out of the group of four friends who can drive, yet he is so embarrassed to drive everyone around in his tiny bright yellow car.

~ Neil (Blake Harrison) ~
The very stupid and slightly simple Neil who thinks he can pull a girl from Nuts or Zoo magazine or maybe even pull his fit teacher. He lives with his dad who, to Neil's dismay, everyone thinks is a bender. He's not though, honest, he just doesn't want a girlfriend and he just finds tight trousers and waistcoats comfortable. Some of his comments make you, think how can someone be that mind-numbingly-stupid? But yep, Neil is, even his facial expressions make him look dim.

~ Jay (James Buckley) ~
Jay likes to think he's the coolest guy in the group with his supposed hundreds of girlfriends and friends from all over the place. He also loves to brag about all the action he's had with the ladies, but it just so happens that all of these ladies seem to live miles away from their home. Obviously his sexual needs aren't quite taken care of though as everything and anything he will somehow relate to sex in some not very pleasant ways. He is the big mouth of the group and often causes trouble for the others by doing things such as shouting 'bus w*****ks' out of the window of Simon's car to some guys standing at a bus stop. When they are then held up at traffic lights a couple of meters away from the bus stop, the apparent 'bus w*****ks' aren't too happy with them.

This is a brilliantly written show with so many hilarious, and some shocking, lines. Will narrates through some of it, mainly at the beginning and end, as if it is a diary of his life which also adds humour to the story.

Each character is so perfect for their role and you can't help believing that they'd actually be like that in real life. The way they all work together and their on-screen relationships are brilliant and you can just imagine a group of friends exactly like them somewhere.

The show deals with a lot of issues that teenagers face and it's done in a brilliant way that is very true to life yet amazingly funny. The first series was very good and gave me a lot of laughs but the second series (which is currently showing on E4) is so much funnier. Through every half hour episode I don't think I stop laughing for more than a couple of minutes.

The show does contain some very strong language and sexual references and scenes though so it definitely isn't a programme suitable for young teenagers.

Unfortunately, each show is only half an hour long and there are only six episodes in each series which really doesn't do the show justice. It is such a superb show that I go out of my way to make sure I don't miss and I really would like to see some more of it. I am desperately praying that they will make another series - this is the funniest English comedy show I've ever seen - nothing compares.

Summary: One of the best comedy shows around - definitely give this a watch it's brilliant
