Advantages: Guests are laughable, ok if you don't mind loads of shouting
Disadvantages: Jezza's unfathomably huge ego, guests complete stupidity
Jeremy Kyle presents a talk show in the mornings on ITV1, unsurprisingly, considering his apparent ego, it's named 'The Jeremy Kyle Show.'
I'd say the show has become progressively worse in terms of the standard of guest and their questionable mental health over the years. The problem with the show is, it provides the kind of laughable fodder you might find on Jerry Springer, but our Jezza still takes it all seriously.
People apply to be on the show, usually with embarassing stories about who is the father of their baby etc, and they want a DNA test - saves them having to pay no doubt. The kind of people who are on the show, are usually on benefits. I don't oppose genuine benefits recipients, been there myself. But a lot of these people on Jeremy Kyle are men who would rather get drunk/stoned than get a job, or single mothers who despite having messed up with the first child go on to have another, and another, and another...
Jeremy loves to lecture his guests about how bad their behaviour is, goes on about how it's his name in the title when they talk back to him, and gets security to drag them off stage when they go into an almighty shouting rant at whichever member of their family has a) abandoned them b) has stolen from them or c) they have commited incest with. (Ok so the last scenario is a little far-fetched but wouldn't surprise me if it had happened.)
Jeremy's side kick is a counseller named Graham, who seems quite a calming and intelligent man, but his advice is surely lost on the dregs of society who appear on this show. They have no insight, only a desire to get one up on whoever they are having a dispute with, on national TV.
I find the show amusing to watch on occasion, but more often than not I am left thinking how has society got that bad that these people don't see how much they are making a fool of themselves by going on the show. It's as if they're completely without shame. I don't watch it much anymore, except sometimes the repeats on ITV2 in the afternoons as my son has a nap then. I suppose it's worth watching if you revel in others stupidity and misfortune.
Summary: Daytime TV showing the best of british. LOL.

- 22/05/09 I used to watch this when I was back at home. I'd turn it up really loud to drown out the neighbour's arguing. Ah, memories. :D
