The Jeremy Kyle Show
Advantages: It's addictive.
Disadvantages: It's embarrassing.
Jeremy Kyle is a daytime chat show host presented by Jeremy Kyle. The show has been running for five years and airs on ITV between 9:25 and 10:30, Monday to Friday. It is also repeated throughout the day on ITV2 and you can watch it via the ITV player.
Personally I find this show quite embarrassing to watch, because people come on to air their dirty washing to the nation, while Jeremy looks down at them, shouts a bit and patronises a lot.
Subjects up for discussion typically include the following subjects:
- "Who's the daddy?" - A DNA special.
- "I want a baby and I don't care who the Dad is."
- "Is my uncle my Dad?"
- "Help - my teen is out of control."
- "My Mum won't stop drinking."
- "My boyfriend uses me as a punch bag."
I think that the most entertaining shows involve women who swear blind that Joe Bloggs is the Dad and they say that they are 100% sure, that there's no other man in the frame... and then the DNA results are revelled and they prove that Joe isn't the Daddy... yes, it's the height of chav and shows British society up, but it's entertaining...
The show prides itself on its "after show care" where Jeremy's mate Grahame helps to guests to work through their 'issues.'
I know people that work behind the scenes of the show and the guests are all genuine. However they sometimes find it difficult when they have to deal with a guest that has a particularly harrowing story.
I think this show is the equivalent of bear baiting and no matter how difficult life I got I would never, ever appear on the show. However, although I often cringe while I watch it, I'm ashamed to admit that I find Jeremy Kyle is strangely addictive and I can easily sit through a whole episode.
Three out of five stars... because it reels you in!
Summary: My guilty pleasure...
