Advantages: Can be humorous to watch.
Disadvantages: Sometimes a bit stupid with the subject matter.
I have to admit that when my wife used to talk about Jeremy Kyle and say how strange or funny the various people were that came on, I would just shake my head and say "What on earth do you watch that rubbish for?" but, recently, whilst off work for a few days, I had the opportunity to catch a couple of the episodes myself and I can believe I'm going to say this..............I actually enjoyed it.
Jeremy Kyle is the host of a talk show where various people of all backgrounds come onto to the show and reveal all sorts of things to the public. Whether it is arguments with family members, cheating on a partner, taking a lie detector about indiscretions or having a DNA test to see who the father of a child is, it is all talked about.
No matter how personal you may think a subject is, these people do not care about letting the entire nation know who they are or what it is they've done!! Crazy!
Kyle talks to these people and tries to get them to open up and reveal the truth or if there is no truth to be found, he tries to comfort people and get them to talk to one and another.
Although most of the subjects are just plain ridiculous, about youngsters that can't stop jumping into bed and making babies and then acting like babies themselves, there is a lot of content about real problems where help is offered by the show and professional psychologists to people with real addictions who want a better life.
Kyle often touches on subjects affecting the country like drug and alcohol addiction and attempts to show the viewers the realities of what these addictions can cause.
What I liked (maybe I'm a bit vindictive) was when he would talk nicely to a guest to get them to open up, and then when the other guest would come on, he would suddenly reveal info about the first person that made them out to be a right nasty piece of work. He would take great pleasure in revealing this and make the first guest look like a complete Wally by setting them up for a fall. As far as I'm concerned, although this can kind of be quite embarrassing for the guest and sometimes nasty, if they can't handle it then they should never have put themselves out there to take the criticism.
Sometimes I felt that Kyle can be a bit too opinionated, at the end of the day nobody's perfect, especially not him with his past as an addicted gambler. But like I said above, don't come on the show if you're scared to have criticism thrown at you, he's there to do a job and get viewers to go "Oh my god", and he does this with his way of speaking and opinions.
At the end of the day, although I used to think this show was not worth a look, after catching a few episodes I realised it is actually quite fun. I know that sounds weird because the fun is coming from others misery and despair, but the way some of them act, you can't help but laugh!
The episodes are an hour long, with breaks included and can usually be found on ITV at 9.30am or on ITV 2 at 1.30pm.
Definitely worth a watch if you get a chance.
Summary: Talk show about the general publics problems.
