The Jeremy Kyle Show
Advantages: Makes you realise your life isn't that bad
Disadvantages: Can be addictive :)
The Jeremy Kyle Show is a daily chat show on ITV dealing with various problems 'normal' members the UK public are suffering from. It is on weekday mornings at 9.25am for a 1hr 5min show. It is repeated on the same day on ITV2 at 1.30pm followed by another episode of the show immediately after.
Infront of a studio audience, families and friends give details of their dilemma which they hope Mr Kyle will be able to mediate and help resolve the problem(s). During the show there are roughly four different stories which deal with issues like abusive relationships, long-lost family members, theft and lies, adultery and the favourite topic ........ Are you my baby's father?
There is a phone number shown during the show which you can call if you want to appear on the show. If chosen guests, normally of the working or not so working class, are accommodated in a hotel overnight. The shows' team of researchers speak to the guests before they appear on the show to get the gist of the story. The show also carries out lie-detector tests and DNA tests so these are also taken before the show so the results can be revealed infront of the audience.
Jeremy introduces the show and then reads the headline of the first story. The first guest comes out and sits on the stage where Jeremy then asks them to give a brief gist of 'what is going on' - their side of the story. Another guests will then come out to give their side and this is where the fireworks can begin.
The show mostly contains couples arguing about the parentage of a child with Jeremy Kyle mediating the argument and on the other hand stirring the feud.
The most common topics are revealing the DNA results of 'who's the father' and lie-detector results of adulterous relationships. The show does also cover topics like rape and abuse within a serious atmosphere which really does open your mind and can encourage others to get help.
The problems rarely get resolved on stage however there is a backstage team who are on hand to conduct mediation away from the cameras. This backstage team is lead by Graham 'The Genius' who conducts the session and sometimes appears on stage.
Jeremy Kyle has become an iconic piece of TV brilliance. It is a bit like Marmite you either love it or hate it. I find myself glued to the screen when the 'results' shows are on even if I don't like to admit it!
Summary: Great TV especially if stuck at home bored
