Advantages: Patrick Jane, initial plot
Disadvantages: dark haired lady cop!! sometimes a bit predictable
OK, I will openly admit it, the only reason why I tuned into watching this was because there was absoloutly nothing on on that dismal Thursday night of telly. I can actually say that it was lucky that I did. Channel 5 is one of those channels which I stereotype as a no go zone. Being that I haven't found anything worth watching on it, aside from Neighbours of course!
I haven't missed one of the episodes which have been shown since it started at the end of March. The Mentalist is basically Patrick Jane. He used to be a celebrity psychic medium, pretending that he had paranormal abilities. That all changed however when his attention seeking creations drew the interest of a serial killer. The death of his family, filled him with such remorse and guilt that he sort of joined the police force to help solve serious murders.
There have been references towards the death of his wife and daughter, like that of been confronted with the red painted face which was on the wall above there bodies, also painted on that of other cases. Also when talking to another 'psychic', she draws out something which hints that he really is not getting over it. I belive that we are going to see a lot more of that story in the coming episodes.
Simon Baker plays the role of Patrick Jane and yes he is very dashing! Smirk as you will at this next suggestion but I do think he resembles a young Michael Flatly (Tapdancer!) and I am not the only one!
This is a great show, which is on at 9pm on Thursdays. It has already been awarded Favorite New TV Drama at the choice awards and actually has 23 episodes to the full series. So make sure you're in for the long haul. I really hope that Channel 5 are able to keep this, as they lost House to Sky (boo hiss) and I really don't want to have to miss it because of money issues.
I would really recommend this to anybody who wants to see a thoroughly dashing smile who's also interested in crime shows, and doesn't mind something a little bit different to the mix. The only annoying thing about it is the dark haired head cop, very bad that I don't know her name! I get the feeling that there's going to be some kind of relationship type thing with her and Jane. Hopefully I'll be wrong because for some reason I've taken a dislike towards her!
