Advantages: can win large sums of money
Disadvantages: premium rate number
The mint was a late night interactive quiz show filmed in the set designed with the look of a big mansion.
The show dominated the tv on itv1 and itv2 for about 2 years.
People watching the show were encouraged to phone a premium rate telephone number to answer the quiz on screen for a cash prize and a chance to open the vault.
The money up for grabs was not small amounts, usually into the tens of thousands for a top answer.
Once a contestant got an answer right they had a chance at opening the vault, this was a vault of money starting at £100,000 and went up by £1 for every minute the show was on air untill someone guessed the four digit code to open the lock on the vault.
Brian Dowling and Beverly French were my favorite presenters on this show.
The mint used to have guest visitors most of who were famous, the presenters used to chat to the guests live on air about a wide range of subjects from there careers to there family life which i found quite interesting if you liked the guest that was on the show, Mike Miller was quite funny as was Keith Chegwin and the late Mike Read.
Iused to love watching the mint on our bedrom telly before falling to sleep each night, not being a gambler my self i never called in to the show but liked to shout out the answers to the tv at home.
I now fall to sleep to night watch each night.
Summary: great show if you are not a compulsive gambler
