The new adventures of old Christine is a comedy series based in America. This programme is about a mother (Christine) who is a divorcee and a mother of 1 son Richie. Christine is often very lonely and emotional but lives with her brother Matthew. There is not many American tv programmes i can watch as i find them to be very over the top, but this is one series that i absolutely enjoy and find hilarious. The whole show is consistent in being able to make one laugh all the way through. Main actors are Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Clark Gregg, Hamish Linklater, Wanda Sykes, Emily Rutherfield, Trever Gagnon, Tricia O'Kelley & Alex Kapp Horner.
The New Adventures Of Old Christine, if i'm not mistaken debuted in 2006. It's already on it's fourth season which aired last year. This programme shows Christine Campbell and useless irresponsible ex hubby Richard at loggerheads and often playing 'tic-for-tac' games with each other, but they can actually get on most of the time. The programme title refers to Christine being turned into 'Old Christine' because her ex husband finds a new girlfriend of the same name, but years younger. Christine gets a little jealous and sets about trying to find her own happiness. I recall her dating a guy called Burton, which ends up breaking apart when she cannot utter the words 'i love you' to him.
Christine is a keen drinker, she loves her wine and gets on well with her best friend Barb, portrayed beautifully by Wanda Sykes. She's also really close to her brother, which is think is just a little bit too close. She's very keen on getting her son the best education he can get, and is often attacked by other mums. Christine also owns a gym for women. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is a wonderful actress and this programme shows off all her comedy and acting skills. The way she pulls her facial expressions kills you before she even says a word. You can actually end up feeling really sorry for Christine as she's for unlucky in love.
Other characters include.
*Matthew Kimble - Christine's brother, a clumsy mummy's boy. Matthew can't decided which career path he wants and often struggles. He once went in for a medical school course and then quit and is now trying to pursue a career as a therapist.
*Barb - Christine's best friend who oftens cuts straight to the point. I love this woman, the witty one liner's she comes out with are hilarious. Barb is also Christine's colleague at the gym she owns. Barb ha a very sarky sense of humour and will chip in with witty comments at any given chance. When christine reveals some of her rather 'outrageous' plans, to either go on a date or get one over on Richard, Barb's expressions on her face when she dissaproves is so funny. Things take a funny turn for the two best friends as they ended up getting married to save Barb for being deported. They also ended up losing the ownership of the gym.
*Richard Campbell - Christine's ex husband and is only in Christine's life beccause they share a young son, Richie. When Richard divorced Christine, he decided to trade her in for a younger model, who was also called Christine. Leaving Christine Campbell 'Old Christine'. Richard is also a commitment phobe and took him a few seasons to actually get engaged.
*Richie Campbell - Christine and Richard's son. Played by the little cutie Trevor Gagnon. Richie goes to a really posh school to further his education and get the best out of life, due to his pushy mother. Christine is often seen practically smothering her son she is that protective. Richard is worried about his son, as he doesn't show much 'manly traits' he is often seen saying. His dad also wants him to start enjoying things like football and musical's and Richie doesn't take to any of them and is a confused young boy.
This comedy series is very enjoyable to watch, each character has their own unique twist. The comedy and witty jibes are so hilarious. From the bonding between Old Christine and son Richie, to the sarcastic carping comments from Barb. all four seasons so far have been so thrilling to view. It's a light hearted and amusing humour, this programme is absolutely amazing. I recommend this programme to you all. An hour of pure entertainment and guaranteed to make you laugh.
This show can sometimes be seen on UK Gold. I often catch some episodes on here. Go ahead and get watching.
Summary: Fantastic comedy series !
