Advantages: good variety of topics, presenters
Disadvantages: starts a few minutes before 7 so if you're watching something else you may miss some of it
I think I have only missed watching The One Show on 3 sepatate occassions. None of which were my fault. Ever since it had its first trial run I knew I would be a keen viewer.
Of course during that 4 week run through the presenters were Adrian Chiles and Nadia Sawalha. I did like Myleene Klass and still do with Christine Bleakley but there was something about Nadia which made it a bit better. Maybe it was to do with her manic laugh!
The actual programme is 30 minutes long but it doesn't start at 7pm. It's always a few minutes before, slightly annoying when I was watching Great British Menu on BBC2 which finished at 7.
The show gives you a half hour of topics which could interest you. They vary from what is going on in the news, celebrities, finance issues, wildlife, music, history and a few other categories as well.
Over the past 3 years they have a wide range of reporters, the more popular ones still hanging about. Lucy Siegle, whose subject is to do with the environment is one of these. To be honest I find her so annoying I can't see how she's lasted this long! Others include Phil Tufnell, Neil Oliver, Mike Dilger, Dr Sarah Jarvis and my favourite Marty Jopson.
With each show they have special guests. Naturally some have been better than others. Jools Holland and Alan Carr are two of the best 'celebrities' they've had on so far. Generally, like with all chat shows, they are there to promote something.
As there is such a wide choice of topics there is bound to be something you like to watch. Personally I always found inventions and all that to be a bit dull. Until the fabulous Marty came along. With his braces and slightly wavy hair. He just screams things to do with science. I also like the gardening section because of Christine Walkden. I don't think I've ever seen someone so enthusiastic about a subject before!
The One Show still has it's little mishaps. The Carol Thatcher incident for one and then theres Adrian stepping in to apologise for any swearing as soon as it happens. Also reminding guests that it is a family show.
I like the way you can tell that he and Christine do get on and I don't believe what people have been saying about the BBC dumbing down the programme by having phone ins to see which of the presenters should sing or watching them do races outside, breaking world records. When a programme is this good sometimes it's nice to have a little bit of childishness sometimes!
This is a great programme which is suitable for all ages. It's perfect for sitting down after you've had your tea and starting off a nights entertainment.

- 19/06/09 Good review, but I've always found the male presenter somewhat like a creepy pervy uncle when he co-presents with pretty young women. No slander intended :D |
