Advantages: Newcastle United
Disadvantages: Adverts, Andy Townsend
For those of you who are fans of football I hope you will agree with me that the Premiership has been one of the worst football shows ever to be put on the air. It begins with them playing some music by U2 in the background while showing some of the highlights of the day. Similar to Match of the Day. After showing the audience these highlights they then begin their main feature. Advertising. They advertise their sponsor Coca Cola. Quite a good sponsor. So far it seem more or less like Match of Day except they have already advertised more than Match of the Day would have by this time. Now Desmond Lyman continues to present it. Now this is good. A top presenter, and he's with Terry Venables another top name. Then you look to their companion. Andy Townsend. Not one of the greatest names, in fact; not a good name at all. A bit of a let down really. They then proceed to show the football. The football is good. You could even say that you are enjoying the match. Then you get to half-time and if it is the first time watching the program then you expect to hear Desmond Lyman discussing the match; but no, it goes into adverts. The program goes on like this and it gradually gets even more boring. Since BBC 1 hasn't spent the money on the rights to show the highlights they are now showing good quality international football. Channel 5 have even gone one better when they showed Newcastle v. Troyes. A top match. This one and a half hour program has turned into more like an hour because of all the adverts. I wish ITV hadn't bought the rights to show more adverts. In fact; it's been replaced by Cilla Black!

- 15/02/02 Interesting op, which I have to agree with. |

- 14/02/02 I thought cheeky chappy Ally McCoist was Terry Venables' sidekick? |

- 13/02/02 Personally, I record the programme, and watch it before I go to bed - fast forwarding through everything except the actual highlights. I'd rather they just did a show without any presenters, and just showed the football.
It annoys me that they show 25 minutes of Man U or Liverpool, and then just show the goals from half the other games. |
