The Racoons was a popular cartoon series for kids that initially aired between 1985 and 1992. It was made in Canada, and has many features of the country, with the setting being the Evergreen Forest in Canada, and centring on Bert Racoon and the adventures he has with his friends as he goes about his life.

Bert's main friends were Ralf and Melissa, and he played with them all the time, but naturally, there were dangers, which his parents regularly pointed to him every time he went out. The main villain of the cartoon was the sinister and evil Cyril Sneer, and aardvark with scheming business plans that generally involve knocking own the trees of Evergreen Forest to make money. Sneer was also involved with the recurring character Mr Knox, a crocodile, who seemed to be an investor in Sneer's plans.

Sneer's son, Cedric, didn't approve of his dad's dastardly deeds, and he regularly joined forces with Bert and his friends, and actually became Bert's best friend in their quest to stop Cyril Sneer and his trio of pig henchmen (very funny watching these little guys being menacing!)

I highly enjoyed watching this as a kid, and I know that the show has been rerun a couple of times. Today, with the environment a bigger factor in daily politics than ever before and with guidelines and rules set in place for recycling and being careful where the environment is concerned, a cartoon such as The Racoons is worth rescheduling to show a more educational side to a kids' cartoon. This is what I like about cartoons as a parent - the moral lesson lurking around with the entertainment. The Racoons has been aired a few times in recent years, and I have heard that they are supposed to be making another welcome return, although I am not sre where or when. If you can catch this cartoon, do. The animation is a little dated now, but the entertainment and educational factors are still present, and I recommend this cartoon.

Summary: Good TV cartoon hopefully set to make a reappearance

This always creeped me out a bit, for some reason but the theme tune is one of my fave songs!
