Advantages: Great Theme Tune, Good Stories

Disadvantages: None

You can run with us, we got everything we need! Run with us, we are free! What a great theme tune. As a child of the 80's The Raccoons was one of my favorite cartoons. I would watch it every saturday morning and I just loved it.

Around in the late 80's this cartoon was set 'deep in the heart of the evergreen forest'. It followed a group of Raccoons as they went about there lives. The Evergreen forest was aparently supposed to depict Western Canada, and it did have that Canadian feel to it.

The main character was Bert Raccoon, he was a crazy fun loving guy. Always getting himself into mischief and having all kinds of adventures. His two close friends Ralph and Melissa were the sensisble ones who brought him back down to earth and would help him get out of trouble more often than not.

Then you had the baddy. A pink aardvark by the name of Cyril Sneer, he ran a big industrial company that was always trying to harm the forest in its attempts to expand his business empire. Cyril's son Cedric was another of Berts friends so his family loyalty and his loyalty to his friend was often a problem. Cyril Sneer also had his three henchmen, little pigs who were very funny and pretty useless at doing anything.

There were quite a few other characters, I liked the little dog who always made me smile. There were 60 episodes aired over the years, which is quite a lot for a cartoon and really does show how successful this show was.

Kevin Gillis was the creator of the cartoon and I always remember his name from the opening credits. He had a really good way of telling the stories and there were always good moral lessons for children that would come out in the various episodes, something many cartoons seemed to have back in the 80's.

You can get the DVD of this cartoon now, as with most popular 80's cartoons. My friend had a copy and we watched some of it, and I must admit I still enjoyed the show, even though it is really for kids.

Think the best thing about this cartoon though had to be the theme tune, it was such a great tune! I can still remember the words twenty years on! This obviously shows how much of an impression it had on me when I was a kid.

So overall this is a fantastic cartoon. You can catch clips of it on u-tube, and as I mentioned there is a dvd available. It's a real shame they don't make cartoons like this for kids anymore, feel very lucky to have been a kid when shows like this were made. Try and find a clip of the theme tune, and if you liked this when you were a kid, you will be singing along before you know it!

Summary: A Great Cartooon
