The idea behind this show is simple - a millionnaire goes undercover in a deprived area, and tries to find people or organisations to help by giving them money. The millionnaire spends time with members of the community over a few days, and you learn of stories of hardship and selfless dedication. This programme is based on a Millionaire, usually self made, going into a town not local to them to try and find people in need of financial help. These can range from individuals to organisations - usually charity based or based on helping members of the community. It is very much a feel good tv programme. You follow the millionaire from their luxury home to the none luxury home they are about to live in - usually in the worst part of the area. They then have to, with the cameras following them, go volunteering to try and find people to help. They have no contact with there families or to their bank accounts. They have ... The secret millionaire is aired on channel 4 on wednesday evenings and is on for one hour, and in my opinion it is one of the most moving programmes on tv at this current time. The show has a different millionaire each week and starts off by showing the person and how he/she has become so wealthy. I like the way they show a normal person who has worked hard through their life and earned their wealth rather than just inherited it and none of them are snobby and above themselves. The millionaire then goes into a community that has had problems and some of them are very rough, they are housed....well if you call it that, some of the places they put ... Read the complete review

I admit it, I find this programme incredably moving. I don't doubt that the millionaires get something out of it beyond a warm fuzzy glow, great publicity for one and at a very cheap price, but I genuinely think many of them are moved by the communities and people they meet. The idea behind The Secret Millionaire is that a millionaire volunteers to go undercover to do some good. They are given a job or role in a disadvantaged community, and encouraged to meet people from that community. At the end of the show they decide who they would like to help out, and for how much money. Some of the millionaires are very generous, giving tens of thousands of ... Read the complete review

I, invariably, find myself welling up at the end of The Secret Millionaire' and I ususally feel a bit embarrassed about it and attempt to conceal those forming tears from my partner. The truth is, I love this tv programme; it has all the ingredients that satsfy my sensibilities and tug at my heartstrings. 'The Secret Millionaire' is a tv programme where a rich person (usually a self-made business person) exchanges their advantaged position for a down-at-heel one. They leave behind their family, large house and massive income and live in a (usually) grotty, rented house on a benefit-type income - which works out at about £8 a day. They then ...
