I recently watched an American TV series that was new to me - The Unit. My reason for watching? I am a big fan of the show 24 and had heard that the main character in The Unit was none other than President David Palmer from 24, also known as the actor Dennis Haysbert. The series follows the lives of men in a covert Special Forces team and the missions they are sent on. It is based on the book 'Inside Delta Force: The Story Of America's Elite Counterterrorist Unit' by Eric Haney, which is now on my 'to read' list! It is fast paced, gripping and has that 'how on earth did they get out of that one?!' factor. What I particularly liked about this show was that the main characters are not just the fiercely loyal and trained soldiers, but the wives of these men and their families back home. Many of the plotlines revolve around them too, and the switch back and forth between the extreme life of the Unit men when deployed on mission and the life their wives maintain for them back home, makes this first season of 13 episodes even more watchable. If you loved 24 then you will love The Unit and I will definitely be watching season 2!
