Advantages: Slightly entertaining
Disadvantages: Drags on, and is very staged
The X Factor, as I'm sure most people reading this already know, is a music talent show. It's touring the UK looking for 'talented' solo artists and groups who audition in front of the panel of judges.
The 4 judges are:
Simon Cowell - high trousered music maestro
Louis Walsh - Southern Irish boyband manufacturer
Sharon Osbourne - Wife of Black Sabbath singer Ozzie Osbourne
Dannii Minogue - Former star of Home & Away and sister of singer Kylie Minogue
The show has produced winners Shayne Ward, Steve Brookstein, Leona Lewis & last year's winner Leon Jackson.
So far the biggest star to be created is Leona Lewis, who has had a couple of hit singles and is expected to have a few more.
Arguably the best bit of this show is the auditions stage, when people who clearly aren't the full shilling are mocked by the nation. I think it's a bit cruel, but it makes for entertaining tv, so no one cares.
As the show goes on the contestants are gradually whittled down. The hopeful's generally return to their family home at one stage with a sad face, and with Coldplay's 'fix you' playing in the background, and go 'I'm sorry to say .................................................. ......... I'm not staying, cos I'm through to the next round! Queue lots of jumping around, and a slightly more rousing bit of 'fix you'.
It's very predictable mediocore fare.
Summary: Predictable music talent show

- 24/03/08 I agree with you, but think the mocking of those who don't cut it by the makers of this programme is gratuitously unfair and tasteless. On the other hand, you could argue - perhaps - that by putting themselves on TV then they are fair game. |
