Advantages: Great entertainment for a Saturday night

Disadvantages: Some of the nasty comments are unnecessary

I have to admit I love the X Factor and if I don't get to see it on a Saturday night then I always sit down to watch it on a Sunday.

The X Factor is usually on around 7.30pm every Saturday night on ITV1, it is then followed by Xtra Factor on ITV2, followed by X factor: The Results and lastly followed by Xtra Factor: The Results. For anyone that loves this show it is great because your whole Saturday night is taken up with this!

The X Factor is a singing contest and it works on the basis that every contestant sings and then the judges comment on their performance. The public get to phone in or text their vote and then the 2 people with the lowest amount of votes have to participate in a sing-off. After the 2 people sing the judges then decide who they want to let through. If it goes to deadlock (ie. 2-2, as there are 4 judges) then whoever got the lowest amount of votes from the public gets kicked off.

The winner of X Factor gets a recording contract.

My verdict on the remaining contestants is:

Ruth - she is definitely in my top 2. The Spanish Senorita just belts them out every week and she is so passionate with her songs. She also appears to be immensely grateful for being there. I hope she goes further as she was in the bottom 2 last night. I suspect that this is because she doesn't have a county or region voting for her.

Diana - the other singer in my top 2. She is so young and yet has such a different, amazing voice. She didn't sing last night because of a laryngitis but she is allowed to go through to next week. She is very quirky and versatile and her songs are raw.

Alexandra - fantastic voice and has a great career ahead of her but for some reason she just doesn't connect with me?

Daniel - I feel sorry for him because he gets an awful time from the judges but he should have gone instead of Laura last night. He has a great personality but for me he doesn't have the 'x' factor.

Eoghan - he has a good enough voice but I don't think he realises how lucky he is to be going through every week. It may be that he is overwhelmed because he is so young but it can come across as arrogant

JLS - great voices and there is a niche in the market for a boy band but they don't do anything for me personally

Rachel - fantastic voice but her song choices always seem to be wrong and she needs to have a style makeover. She also has a bit of an attititude.

And now my verdict on the judges:

Simon - honest and usually right with what he says

Louis - inconsistent, but quite funny. Can be very nasty to the contestants though

Danni - gives good advice, I think she is being bullied this year and I feel sorry for her

Cheryl - has a heart of gold and can give criticism without being nasty. Fiercly protective of her group

So that's it. For me it is either Ruth or Diana to win!

Summary: Great entertainment for a usually dull Saturday night!
