Advantages: Dramatic, musical, emotional and involving.
Disadvantages: There has to be a lot of losers to find that one winner.
I am sure some people are probably tired of reading reviews and hearing about this show by now so I apologise for my review in advance. I simply cannot help but find this show absolutely compelling viewing that I feel annoyed about having to miss when a social engagement takes precident over viewing it.
I have been watching this television show since the very first series and although I was not totally addicted at that time, I have since come to miss it whenever a season comes to a close. I think there is a strong soap opera comparison to be made here as you feel as though you are being drawn into a whole network of people's lives when you watch this and going on a special journey with them.
A lot of the talent that features on this show is truly amazing and this year I particularly loved Laura, who was voted off the show two weeks ago now, and Austin who was also voted off! I do still like Alexandra though because she has an extremely commercial voice that is easy to listen to, and Eoghan (I hope I have spelled that correctly), the young lad with the huge talent. I am not quite sure that Eoghan is ready for stardom though to be honest and think he would have done better to appear next year or the year after when he has grown a little.
I should probably explain at this point, for those who do not regularly watch this show, that the X Factor is a singing competition! Contestants audition for a place in the live finals where the public have the chance to vote for their favourites. The least favourites each week have a sing-off and the judges, Simon Cowell, Danni, Cheryl and Louis then get to choose which one to keep and which one to send home. At the end of the show, there is one winner who is crowned as having the X Factor and given a record deal from BMI, the recording label that Simon Cowell works for.
This is absolutely compelling television both on the soap opera level and from a singing competition point of view. The performances are raw and energetic every week and it is a really emotional experience for the contestants that I get caught along with sat at home watching. If you have never given this show a chance because of all the hype, I recommend giving it a try next week and maybe you will see what all the fuss is about.
Summary: Give it a try.

- 17/11/08 Good review. I used to be an x-factor fan, but its lost its appeal now. I thought some of the singers were amazing in the auditions, but once they got through to the finals, the judges had stripped all personality out of them to make them more commercial, yet the thing that got them through the auditions were that they were different. All the best singers this year have already went out. |

- 17/11/08 Not an X-factor fan myself but a nicely written review. xx |

- 17/11/08 I think the standard this year is miles higher than previous years. No idea who will win - could be anyone's game. I think Alexandra is great, but like JLS too...wouldn't be surprised if they won this year. |
