Advantages: Fun, can sing along, gets exciting!
Disadvantages: Sob stories
The X Factor has been running for several years now so I am sure most people have heard of it, even if they refuse to watch it.
Essentially, it is a singing competition. The original line up of judges were Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne and of course, Simon Cowell. They then recruited Danni Minogue. Just a year after Danni started, Sharon quit the show and Cheryl Cole took over.
Each year, the judges travel around the country and audition anyone who wishes to sing for them. You honestly get all sorts turning up for auditions, some are there for a laugh, some really think they are good (and aren't!) and some ooze talent.
The auditions are pure comedy, the judges struggle to keep a straight face if someone shocking turns up - it's a shame when they are a nice person but you get some really stroppy people on there who really can't handle the fact they are tone deaf!!
After the initial auditions, the contestants are then sent to boot camp where they sing again and are, again, told whether they will go through or not.
Usually around 6 from each category (Under 25 girls, Under 25 boys, Over 25's and Groups) go through and spend a week with the judges at their house (usually abroad. The judge then chooses 3 acts to bring to the live show.
The live show is staight forward, each week they sing a song chosen by their mentor (a judge) and the public votes someone off.
The X Factor is such an enjoyable show, it's cheesy at times but its harmless fun and does really grip you. You will probably find you are laughing uncontrollably at some auditions and you may even shed a tear at some of the stories. I would have thought anyone who enjoys music will like the show.
Summary: Why not watch it this year and see?
