Advantages: Good characters that ease through the storylines
Disadvantages: None
Rowan Atkinson stars at the forefront of this police station based sitcom, whilst each episode does have a story line the majority of laughs just come from the hillarious characters that grace the police station. Ben Elton, a huge fan of Dad's Army has used a very similar layout which isn't too noticeable until you are aware of it and then it's plain obvious.
There is constant rivalry between the uniformed police and the CID, the uniformed police are led by Inspector Fowler (Rowan Atkinson), a reliable police-officer who is extremely committed to the job and has a number of nerdy hobbies, his jealous live in partner Sergeant Patricia Dawkins is constantly trying to get at his amorous side which seemingly doesn't exist much to her irritance (she wants to marry him and have children).
Then there are the three constables, the most competent being Maggie Habib who rarely puts a foot wrong and is extremely smart much unlike her colleagues the camp and thick Kevin Goody who has no idea what being a policeman entails and is mostly only there because he likes the uniform, he's almost matched in his stupidity by fellow policeman - old dog Frank Gladstone who was born in Trinidadian and comes from a long line of coppers, he's known for his completely silly comments.
All of these characters are loveable, the same can't be said for the guys in CID, who are unprofessional and incompetent. They are however rather amusing too, a common theme is that Inspector Fowler gets one over on Detective Inspector Grim.
I personally find this show very amusing and think it's quite under-rated, I've never seen a bad episode but I think that my favourite one is where we see Inspector Goody lashout at a skinhead!
Summary: Excellent
