Advantages: Comfortable and familiar

Disadvantages: Not all of the content is that interesting

This Morning is for me the ultimate magazine show, just easy watching for easy mornings off work. Since it's recent makeover and the introduction of a new presenter in Holly Willoughby, the show has improved even further.

The show runs on weekday mornings from 10.25 to 12.30 on ITV1, covering a vast array of topics from cookery slots, showbiz news, medical updates and real-life stories. The regular presenters are Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby (replacing the intensely irritating Fern Britton, thank God), with Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langford covering thursdays, fridays and school holidays. They are supported by a cast of roving reporters and experts, including Dr. Chris Steele, Denise Robertson, an array of chefs and Peter Andre as their new showbiz man.

While I really enjoy this show, it is by no means essential viewing. Often it will be on in the background while I do other things (mainly apply for jobs - booo) and this is the beauty of the show. It requires no concetration. Over the course of an episode there are many things which are of no interest to me, but there are sections I love such as the fashion makeovers (although new fashion 'expert' Jason Gardiner is rubbish!) and the cooking.

One of the main attractions of the show is the presenters. Phillip and Holly are warm and friendly and ideal for this type of show. They switch from interviewing mothers who have lost children to discussing the latest episode of X Factor seamlessly. They are good at interviewing their guests offering empathy and warmth, and the celebrities on the show for interview are always probed. Ruth and Eamonn, while perhaps generally less popular, are in my opinion good at their job.

All things considered I reckon this show has gone from strength to strength. I remember watching it with my mam as a toddler with Richard and Judy and the floating weather map, and it feels like a comfortable format as its gone through its changes over the years. Watchable, entertaining and while all of its content may not be relevant or interesting to everyone you can't please all of the people all of the time. Generally I'd say this show hasd something for everyone.

Summary: A familiar format going from strength to strength

I used to watch this when it was in Liverpool (I used to live there, so saw the map floating in the Albert Dock!) but stopped when they lazily followed the crowd down to London. Sounds much the same as it used to, though!
