Advantages: It's cute, kids would like it and could learn from it!
Disadvantages: I can't really think of any! I probably shouldn't like it as much as I do?!
I am too old to watch this, and too old to like this. I don't have any kids, and I don't have any younger siblings. Despite this, this is one of the cutest shows I've seen in a long time. I love Shaun the sheep, originally from the Wallace and Grommit times, and when I randomly saw an advert for Timmy Time I got quite excited, as Timmy is supposed to be Shaun's little cousin! I am, in all honesty, a big kid at heart, and I decided to watch it. I even woke up at 9am to watch the first episode, despite not having to go to college that day!
Timmy Time is based around a pre-school, and little sheep Timmy, having just turned 3, starting pre-school amongst other small animals. It follows the adventures of Timmy and friends adjusting to play school life and showing what fun kids can have!
None of the animals talk, but they all make the 'relevent' noises. Timmy "BAAA"'s, the owl tweets, and all the animals make the right noises. There are two 'teachers' at the school also, an owl and another bird, although I don't know what kind of bird it is (Maybe I'm not too old to watch this! I might learn something!)
I haven't seen all of the episodes because unfortunately I have college, but I have found that they all have very good messages.
One episode I watched saw Timmy taking everybody's toys because he wanted them himself, but throughout the episode, he realised that he had been naughty because none of the other's would talk to him, so he gave them all back and everyone became friends again. It sounds simple and not very interesting, but it was a good message to show that you can't always have what you want, and that sharing is good!
Another episode saw the kids having a 'sports day' type thing, and Timmy didn't win any of the races and was very disheartened, because he didn't get a prize. However, at the end of the programme, all of the others gave him their prizes to cheer him up, so he had lots!
The animation of this show is lovely. The colours are very bright, and the animal sounds which are used are quite realistic. It is incredibly cute and light hearted. As the episodes are only 10 minutes each, it is not something which would lose a child's attention, and although the animals don't speak, it is quite clear what is going on.
The only time I have watched this with a child is when I was helping babysit a few weeks ago. It was a 3 year old girl and she got very excited when she heard the theme tune and rushed towards the television - which shows how suited this is to children. It's something which could be shown quickly and easily to keep a child entertained for 10 minutes, and possibly teach them a few things about having friendships with people.
I think this is a brilliant show for children, because it is so child friendly and introduces animals and sounds and the idea of school to them. I'm sure I'm a lot older than the intended market, but I think it's a lovely little show which keeps me entertained with the cute factor for a while, and cheers me up if I'm feeling down! :)
Summary: It's cute, and Timmy is very loveable!
